Olive and Gold
The sea upon these hills
The biography of Richard Jeffries by Edward Thomas writes his likening the Wiltshire landscape to the ocean. I could never put my finger on how I could describe this unique landscape until I read his words. The vastness and remoteness of the chalk downs and ridges are what I want to paint.
The Beach
I find the sea and the connection to the land wonderful. In this country we are surrounded by water, again I find the vastness and remoteness so liberating. This could be a cove from any of the coasts of our land.
Downs and Valleys
This painting is an exaggerated visual description of the Wiltshire countryside. The fields that lay across the landscape are generally larger. I wanted to use the patterns created by the forms of the land.
